It is a dynamic, non-traditional venture focused on pushing artistic boundaries through video, multimedia, and interactive installations. This includes video, film and sound – and serves as a creative laboratory for emerging, cutting-edge art.

History of Playground Arts

Playground Arts was founded in 2019 by Chris Piraino and Jimmy Peggie

It is a contemporary art popup space and artist collective that works to support the work of experimental and unique artists with exhibitions, performances, workshops and related programs.

Playground Arts plays a unique role in the cultural life of the Phoenix area by bringing to our audience a wide range of programming and providing a supportive environment in which artists can take risks and gain valuable experience.

It’s members are committed to working collectively and providing a vital forum for the development and exchange of artistic ideas. Playground Arts exhibition schedule includes visual and aural shows and installations by members and by guest artists, a curated sound art schedule, guest-curated shows, exchanges with similar organizations and group shows that provide much needed exposure for under-represented contemporary artists. It is closely associated with Sound Art Arizona.

Aural Drifting Installation

The Aural Drifting Installation was a unique listening experience for visitors to the Playground Art space.

Visitors walked (drift) through the space and listened to soundscapes made by the artists and how they combine with sound from other artists to form something completely new.

The installation ran from 6 – 8pm on Saturday May 18, 2019.

Valley Bar Installation

This was a monthly experimental video and sound installation that ran for 6 months during 2019 – 2020 at the Valley Bar in Phoenix, AZ. It included quadraphonic sound. The goal was for a continuous, immersive sound which flowed from player to player continuously. It was named the “Underground Sound Exploration” Best quote ever from audience member “What the F$@# was that!” as she left … and came back with 4 more people to share the experience.
